Autor: Ion Băieșu, un om care a făcut școala primară la Poponeți, a fost trimis la liceu de un preot cu numele Ciomag, determinat, așadar, de chiar spiritul locului să aibă umor.
Scenariul cuprinde, într-un tot unitar, trei piese convertite spre un registru fabulistic. O femeie, o dresoare care întruchipează o formă de dictatură, apare brusc, nu prea se știe cum și de unde, ca orice dictatură, și-i tratează pe artiștii dintr-un teatru ca pe niște animale. Artiștii sunt constrânși să joace personaje hibride, oameni cu trăsături animalice, provenind, de fapt, dintr-o societate modificată aproape genetic de cei care conduc discreționar. Spațiul social explorat: familia, un mic infern, care, printr-o răsucire măiastră de condei, sfârșește prin a fi un surogat de paradis.
Personajele sunt reduse la instinctele primare. Nu au creier, nu au inimă, iar cele care au, se pierd în jocuri gratuite și absurde. Ticăloșii suferă sau mimează suferința și își caută argumente care să le legitimeze ticăloșia. Nefericiții își produc iluziile salvatoare, își caută explicații în metafizic, devenind, evident, comici și, uneori, tragicomici. Exprimarea lor e duplicitară, cuvintele nu comunică, ele ascund: intenții, mârșăvii, infidelități, etc. Niște escroci sinceri, în definitiv, cu procese de conștiință.
Ca orice comedie, NIȘTE ANIMALE se sprijină pe comicul de situație, pe comicul de limbaj și, în plus, în bună tradiție românească (Caragiale, Ionescu, Sorescu, Vișniec) aduce la lumină infiltrări de tragic, de absurd domestic (familial), de absurd existențial chiar.
